Konorchek Canyons
Konorchek Canyons are a striking natural formation in northern Kyrgyzstan, in Kemin District of Chuy Region. The canyons are notable for their unusual landscape, bright clay cliffs and sculptural forms created by long geological and erosional processes.
Geography of the canyons
The Konorchek Canyons stretch for many kilometres in the foothills of the Tien Shan, in the area of the Boom gorge. They form a complex system of passages and ravines among clay cliffs. The area of this unusual natural formation is about 200 square kilometres.
How to get there
A private car is the most convenient way to visit the Konorchek Canyons. From Bishkek, follow the A365 highway toward Issyk-Kul along the Bishkek-Balykchy route. After roughly 110-120 km from Bishkek, inside the Boom Gorge, there is a sign pointing toward the canyons.
After turning off the main road and crossing the railway tracks, visitors can park the car. The walking route to the canyons begins from this area.
Excursion route
The route to the Konorchek Canyons starts near the western side of the Krasnooktyabrsky bridge, where the trail enters the canyon valley. The path passes through scenic landscapes and a maze-like system of canyons carved by wind and water over many thousands of years. Clay cliffs and sandy formations create unusual shapes, making the landscape feel almost unreal.
