Ak-Sai Waterfall is a twenty-meter waterfall located in Kyrgyzstan in the Chui region of the picturesque Ala-Archa Gorge, in its branching Ak-Sai Gorge, about 35 km south of the capital of the republic, Bishkek City.
Waterfall characteristics
- The waterfall is approximately 20 meters high and 5 meters wide;
- The water temperature in summer is 5-10 degrees Celsius, which is a low temperature due to the source of water being melting ice;
- The greatest intensity of the water flow occurs in the summer, caused by the abundant glacier melting;
- The waterfall is located at an altitude of 2860 meters above sea level.
Excursion route
The excursion route to the waterfall is located in the valley of the Ak-Say Gorge (a branch of the Ala-Archa Gorge) about 14 km from the entrance to the national park (about 10 km).
Hiking to the waterfall is quite accessible for people with normal sports training and takes about 3-3.5 hours. Numerous local tour operators provide services to get to the gorge.
There is a good place to set up a tent camp and spend the night not far from the waterfall, which many tourists do, especially those who want to continue their tour deep into the gorge and enjoy the beauty of the local nature. There is also a route to Komsomolets Peak (4250 meters).
The best time to visit the waterfall is in spring and summer, as there is an opportunity to swim under its refreshing water. However, it is necessary to observe safety measures, as there are many sharp stones at the foot of the waterfall.
