Ak-Sai Canyons are picturesque and unique canyons located on the southern coast of Issyk-Kul near the village of the same name in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Geography of the canyons
The canyons are located on the southern coast of Issyk-Kul, 130 km from the administrative regional center of Karakol and 200 km from the capital of the republic, Bishkek (the distance along the roads is much greater). They span a vast area along the entire coast and cover an area of more than 15 km2. The average height of the peaks of the canyons is 1750 meters above sea level.
Excursion route
Canyons start at a distance of 5 km from Ak-Sai village and on the main road Karakol-Balykchy along the southern coast of Lake Issyk-Kul and end 1 km away from the shoreline.
You can drive directly to the coast and organize a hiking tour to the numerous peaks of the canyons, from where a bewitching panorama of the Ak-Sai valley and Issyk-Kul view. There is an opportunity to make hiking tour along the paths of the canyons, which will leave positive emotions from the nature of this amazing place.
There is also an interesting car route along the coast of the lake with magnificent scenery of mountains, canyons, and the lake. This route will lead you to the salty healing lake Tuzkel, but keep in mind that this route is intended for vehicles with all-wheel drive and high suspension, as there are steep ravines along the way. During this journey, you can stop almost anywhere and enjoy both the view of the lake and the canyons themselves. The whole journey is about 12-15 km and will take about an hour. If you drive along the main highway towards Balykchy, you will need much more time.

Traveling along the southern coast of Issyk-Kul, I advise you to definitely stop by this beautiful place, which will leave only positive emotions. It is especially recommended to visit here by sunset, as the colors of this place will be the most spectacular.
